DREAM Camp

We survived! The first week of camp was quite the experience. I don't think either one of us knew what to expect. It was a lot of fun and a lot of work! We ended the week with a bang, parading 300 kids and 100 volunteers through the streets and beachfront of Cabarete. Each day presented a new challenge and new friends. We are grateful to be able to have this little adventure.

After camp was over on Friday, we packed our bags and hit the road to catch a bus down to the capital, Santo Domingo. We were so excited to stay in the air-conditioned hostel on temple square and attend the temple. It was very beautiful. We were surprised by how much they were struggling to have temple workers. We were grateful to be able to attend a session in the afternoon.

Things keep moving along and we are learning so much. We are so thankful to be able to do something so out of the ordinary within our first year of marriage. David's favorite part of the trip so far has been having the experience of interacting with kids and learning to be a leader among children. He says it is something he used to be afraid of and he feels that he is overcoming that fear. He is glad to be able to expose these kids to music they have never heard before.

Denae's favorite part so far has been watching her sweet husband run around making friends and killing bugs and carrying his guitar everywhere he goes. She has really enjoyed the challenge of being pushed to do uncomfortable things and feeling personal growth. Her favorite person to meet so far was six-year-old Luigi who had all the answers to life. She hasn't laughed as much as when she was with this little guy.
